Arctos Clothing: for fashion brands that refuse to blend in

In a fashion shop on the high street, selling starts with very small things. Light falling on a jacket. Fabric between your fingers. The moment you stand in front of the mirror and see a different version of yourself.

Online, none of that exists. Shoppers can't feel the fabric, can't try the fit, can't ask anyone what these trousers go with. All they have is a screen. And that screen has to do the work of an entire shop.

We've been building websites for brands long enough to understand this. Most themes are made to suit every kind of store, from electronics to groceries. Suiting everyone usually means truly understanding no one.

Arctos was designed for a very specific group: fashion and lifestyle brands, where customers buy with their eyes and their feelings before they buy with their heads.

We're not bringing anything radically new. Every tool you'll see below is something fashion merchants already know. What we've done is look closely at each of those familiar things, set them against the problems fashion brands face every day, and make them more considered, more refined, and better.

Shoppers don't buy a piece. They buy a style.

Hardly anyone opens a fashion store just to find “white shirt, size M”. They come because of a photo on Instagram, an outfit, a feeling they want to have. But on a lot of stores, that feeling falls apart the moment they have to hunt for each piece of the outfit across five different pages.

Every fashion brand has a lookbook. But most lookbooks are just for looking. To buy, shoppers have to remember each item and go and find it themselves. In Arctos, we've kept the familiar lookbook exactly as it is and added just one thing: with Shop the Look, shoppers tap each piece in the image to view it, choose it and add it to their cart on the spot. The outfit stays whole, and the inspiration isn't interrupted.

Full-screen slideshows, oversized type, scrolling text banners, asymmetric layouts for collections. None of these are unfamiliar. The difference is in how they're made: motion just slow enough for people to notice, white space in exactly the right place, the rhythm of a magazine rather than a catalogue. These are details we've refined over years of building creative websites, now put where they belong: in service of selling.

Images have to do the work of hands

When shoppers can't touch the product, images are the only thing that tells them whether a jacket is thick or thin, fitted or loose, and whether the colour in real life matches the one on screen.

Galleries, zoom, video. Every product page has them. We've paid attention to the smaller details, the places where shoppers usually have to guess. When a shopper switches to another colour, the images change with it, so they don't have to imagine what the jacket looks like in olive. Zoom goes close enough to see every stitch. And on mobile, you can use a separate set of images cropped for a vertical screen, rather than a landscape photo shrunk down to fit.

Size and colour are where shoppers give up

A customer who already likes the product can still walk away at the very last step. Not sure which size fits. Not sure if this colour is still in stock. Having to tap back and forth several times just to choose.

Colour swatches, size charts, low-stock messages, quick add to cart. Nothing new. But with each of them, we asked one more question: is there one more tap, one more moment of doubt we can take away? That's why size charts can be different for each product, because a coat and a pair of shoes can't share the same chart. That's why shoppers are told before a size runs out, rather than finding out at the last step. And that's why, with Quick View and Quick Add, shoppers can choose a size and colour and add to cart straight from the listing page, without opening the product page.

These details are small. But this is where a visit becomes an order, or doesn't.

When the collection keeps growing

Fashion brands rarely stand still. Every season brings a new collection, new products, and little by little the store starts to feel more like a warehouse than a showroom. Shoppers start to get lost.

Mega menus, filters, a “load more” button. Every store has them, and shoppers already know how to use them. We've simply made each one lighter. The mega menu can include images, so shoppers see the collection straight from the navigation instead of reading a list of words. Colour filters show as swatches, in a sidebar or a drawer, whichever you prefer. And product listings can load more as shoppers scroll, so browsing never stops halfway.

Most of your customers are holding a phone

For fashion, mobile isn't the secondary version. It's where shoppers see you for the first time, usually from a social media post.

So in Arctos, we haven't added separate features for mobile. We've given the familiar things their own settings for the small screen. You choose whether to show one or two products per row, adjust the spacing, and use images made for phones. And the buy button can stay within reach, however far the shopper has scrolled.

Trust comes from the community

When they can't try something on, shoppers look at what other people say. Customer reviews, photos from Instagram, before-and-after comparisons. All familiar. In Arctos, they're built in and designed to blend into the store, not bolted on for the sake of it. Shoppers see the product on real people, in real life. And for beauty brands, a before-and-after slider lets the results speak for you.

Arctos doesn't tell your story for you

There's one thing we want to be clear about. A theme doesn't create a brand. Your taste, the photos you take, the story behind each collection: that's what makes customers fall for you.

Arctos does just one thing: it helps that story get told the right way, and once a shopper is convinced, it makes the path to the order as short as possible. Not with features nobody has ever seen, but with familiar things done more carefully.

And if you need an extra pair of hands, the team that designed and built Arctos is still here. From answering a small question to design, customisation, setup or development made for your store.
